The Tombs of the Nobles: Ancient Thebes Beyond the Pharaohs

Scattered across hills including Sheikh Abd el-Qurna, el-Khokha, Dra Abu el-Naga and Qurnet Murai, the Theban private tombs belonged to viziers, mayors, priests, scribes, officials and royal administrators.

Unlike royal tombs dominated by journeys through the afterlife, many noble tombs preserve intimate visions of lived experience: farming, fishing, winemaking, music, family gatherings, workshops and foreign tribute.

The tombs are spread across several zones and sold in changing ticket groups. A thoughtful route focuses on a small selection rather than trying to see everything in one visit.
