Tomb of Nefertari: A Painted Journey to Eternity

Created for Nefertari, the Great Royal Wife of Ramesses II, QV66 is widely admired for the clarity, colour and elegance of its New Kingdom wall paintings.

Its descending rooms present the queen before protective gods and illustrate spells from the Book of the Dead. Star-covered ceilings evoke the night sky while hieroglyphic texts guide her rebirth.

Ernesto Schiaparelli discovered the tomb in 1904. A major Egyptian–Getty conservation programme later stabilised its fragile painted plaster, making preservation central to every modern visit.
